Southeast AlabamaWorks is seeking nominations for the annual Powell Brewton Leadership Award for Excellence in Promoting Career and Technical Education.

This award is given to an outstanding individual from business and industry who goes above and beyond to support CTE and career awareness in our region.

A brief narrative must be included with the nomination as to why the nominee should receive the award. The individual must work in one of the ten Region 6 workforce council counties. (www.SoutheastAlabamaWorks.com)

Nominations for the 2020 Award must be submitted by Friday, January 31, 2020. The winner of the award will be announced at the Southeast Worlds of Work (WOW) Leadership Breakfast on Thursday, February 20.

Proclamation Information
  • WHEREAS, profound economic and technological changes in our society are rapidly reflected in the structure and nature of work, thereby placing new and additional responsibilities on our educational system in the areas of career and technical education; and
  • WHEREAS, CTE provides students with a career pathway for postsecondary education and workplace readiness and is the foundation of a strong, well-educated work force which fosters productivity in business and industry and contributes to leadership in the international marketplace; and
  • WHEREAS, Career and Technical Education gives students experience in practical, meaningful applications of various educational tools thus improving the quality of their education and giving all students leadership opportunities in their chosen careers in their communities; and
  • WHEREAS, CTE gives students experience in practical, meaningful applications of various educational tools thus improving the quality of their education and giving all students leadership opportunities in their chosen careers in their communities; and
  • WHEREAS, CTE offers individuals lifelong opportunities to learn new skills, that provide them with career choices, expanded earning potential, and job satisfaction; and
  • WHEREAS, the ever-increasing cooperative efforts between career and technical educators, administrators, and business and industry representatives stimulate the growth and vitality of our state economy and by preparing students for careers in high-demand, high-wage, and highly technological skilled areas in a global economy; and
  • WHEREAS, CTE is important in southeast Alabama for the longevity of higher compensated jobs and retention of workers; and
  • WHEREAS, there are many unrecognized efforts by concerned persons who care about the future of higher compensated jobs and retention of young people southeast Alabama; and
  • WHEREAS, without these concerned citizens at every level, continuity and continued focus on career technical education would be impossible in a democracy that regularly changes its leaders and elected officials; and
  • THEREFORE, in recognition of excellence in leadership in the advancing of career and technical education in southeast Alabama; an annual award was established to honor the southeast Alabama person from business and industry that has enthusiastically and consistently promoted career and technical education.
